Terms

The deal when you buy and use Parakeety.

Last updated 28 April 2026

The short version

You pay $30 once. You get a personal license to use Parakeety, the local Mac dictation app, on a Mac you own or control, plus updates for as long as I keep building it. There's a free 7-day trial first so you can be sure before you buy.

The longer version is below. It's plain English on purpose. If anything's unclear, send me a note through the contact page and I'll fix the wording.

Who I am

Parakeety is built and sold by me, an indie developer working solo. Throughout these terms, "I", "me", and "Parakeety" all refer to the same person. "You" is you, the buyer or user of the app.

What you get when you buy

You get Parakeety, a macOS application that runs locally on your Mac. It requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

You also get a license key tied to the email address you bought with, and access to future updates while I'm still maintaining Parakeety.

What it costs

$30 in US dollars, paid once. There is no subscription, no annual license, and no separate seats. Lifetime updates are included for as long as I keep building Parakeety.

Your license

When you buy Parakeety, I grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to use the app for personal or business purposes on Macs you own or control.

The license is keyed to a single Mac at a time, identified by a one-way hash of a hardware ID so the raw identifier is never stored. If you switch machines, you can deactivate the license on the old Mac and reactivate it on the new one.

License keys are personal. Please don't share yours, post it publicly, or sell it on. What you may not do with Parakeety: redistribute it, resell it, sublicense it, decompile or reverse-engineer it (except to the extent applicable law expressly allows you to), or remove copyright or attribution notices from the app.

Trial

A free trial may be available so you can try Parakeety before buying. The trial is granted per-Mac and is controlled server-side, so the exact length and terms can change. If a trial is offered when you install, the app will tell you.

Trial and refunds

Every Mac gets a free 7-day trial of the same app you'd get when you buy. The trial is how you test Parakeety on your own work before paying, so I don't run a routine "buy and refund" window after that. If something has genuinely gone wrong after purchase, get in touch via the contact page and I'll sort it. See the refunds page for the detail.

Updates

Updates are delivered as new builds of the app. I may issue updates that change features, including removing or replacing them. If I take something material out, I'll flag it in the release notes. You're never obliged to install an update; older builds will keep working on the macOS versions they were built for.

Acceptable use

No surprises here. Don't use Parakeety for anything illegal, don't use it to violate other people's rights (including their privacy), and don't try to circumvent the license or the activation system.

Third-party components and credits

Parakeety stands on the shoulders of some excellent third-party work. Where required, attribution stays in the app and in the site footer.

Speech model: NVIDIA Parakeet TDT 0.6B v3, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Inference runtime: FluidAudio (open-source). Hotkey handling: KeyboardShortcuts, an open-source Swift package. License backend hosted by Supabase Inc.; see the privacy page for what gets sent and why.

The product is provided "as is"

I work hard to make Parakeety good, but I can't promise it will be free of bugs, that it will fit any particular use you have in mind, or that it will run uninterrupted. Parakeety is provided on an "as is" basis, without warranties beyond those I can't lawfully exclude.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, my total liability to you for anything connected with Parakeety is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Termination

You can stop using Parakeety at any time. If you materially breach these terms (for example, by redistributing the app or sharing license keys), your license terminates automatically and you must stop using Parakeety and delete your copy.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms over time. When I do, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will move. Meaningful changes will be flagged in release notes or on the site so you don't have to diff this page yourself.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
